The International Conference on Gender Equality and Climate Change was held on May 22–23. The conference provided an opportunity to exchange international best practices and collaboratively identify concrete steps to enhance climate response capacities. A Call to Action was endorsed as the main outcome of the event.
The Call to Action will be submitted at the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, to be held in November 2025, and will also be proposed for discussion at the 62nd session of the UNFCCC Subsidiary Bodies in June 2025, where the updated Gender Action Plan will be reviewed.
Key four thematic sessions addressed:
• Gender-responsive Policymaking for Climate Adaptation and Mitigation
• Improving Rural Livelihoods and Establishing a Gender-Responsive Climate Adaptation Knowledge Platform
• Gender-Responsive Climate Finance
• Women-led Climate Initiatives and Unleashing Women’s Leadership Potential
Over 200 delegates from 9 countries and 11 international development organizations participated in the conference. Among them were 10 rural women entrepreneurs from Mongolia who are engaged in gender and climate-resilient business initiatives. The event was co-organized by the Government of Mongolia, the
Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the National Committee on Gender Equality, and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The IRIM served as a technical consultancy, supporting content development and coordination of the event.
